Loss of Amenities

Since losing the Pub and Scout hut, it would seem as if we have lost all village amenities. Therefore this issue of our newsletter is to highlight what is available.

Kimpton School

Kimpton School which was opened in 1966, is situated in open countryside between the villages of Fyfield, Kimpton and Thruxton. The boys and girls aged between 4 and 11 years come from these villages. It is part of the Diocese of Winchester and is maintained by Hampshire’s Children’s Services.

The children are able to enjoy the extensive school grounds, including a creative play area for the youngest pupils, a tarmac playground, a terrace with seating and soft planting, a swimming pool and a play trail designed to suit all ages. In addition there are some ancient woodlands which are a valuable teaching resource equipped with a story telling chair and seating, which adds an extra dimension to the curriculum. All of this looks out over spectacular views and offers peace and tranquillity.

The school offer a broad and balanced curriculum which includes a modern foreign language and there are a large number of clubs open for the children to join, including a breakfast club. The quality of education is excellent and inclusive and the school prides themselves in treating every child as an individual. The school aim to support and challenge every child regardless of their needs and offer a wide range of opportunities. Children keen on music and sport are offered the chance to work with professionals who visit the school each week.

Proposed New Facilities at the Church

The Parochial Church Council (PCC) are raising funds, to provide toilet facilities at the church. This is to be a separate building in the church grounds. The plans can be viewed at TVBC Beech Hurst.
When the toilet is built it is hoped that the church will be able to host village activities including a polling station and meetings. This project will be funded not only by the 100 Club proceeds, but also grants from various charitable trust funds and local authorities.

First funding event

In order to raise funds for this project, the PCC are holding a concert in the church on Saturday 25th April 2009 at 7.30pm by the Phoenix Brass Band.
Tickets can be obtained from any PCC member or by ringing 772106 or 773487.

The Fete

The Fete will be held this year as usual in Church Meadow on Sunday 28th June starting at 2.30 it will be having all the usual stalls. Any contributions to any of the stalls would be welcome, as will anyone who would like to help.

Aikido School

The Parish Council is currently seeking funding to run some free exercise evening classes, at the Aikido school.
It is hoped that by this support a local facility and encourage parishioners to be more active.
The next newsletter will contain more details of our progress.

Fly tipping

This is still an issue in the village particularly in Privet Lane and Back Lane. Please be vigilant and report any incidents to Test Valley BC.

Privet Lane

Cllr Vickers is still keeping the pressure on the Highways Authority concerning the tree roots damaging the road in Privet Lane. Cllr Mr P Lashbrook has spoken to Highways about this dangerous bump in the road and he is chasing the matter to its conclusion.
